Deutsch Lehren Lernen (DLL) are a range of unique teacher training courses offered world-wide by the Goethe Institut for German-speaking teachers. The courses combine professional development through collaborative action research and aim to enhance language and communication skills and competencies, whilst broadening understanding of MFL pedagogy. The courses are designed for teachers, newly qualified teachers, trainee teachers and those with an interest in teaching German who are either native speakers of German, or who have a sound knowledge of the German language (the teaching and module materials are in German). The DLL courses cover a range of themes, including teaching young children, teaching young adults and also materials development and provide participants with the skills they need to teach German effectively. Furthermore, the courses enable colleagues to reflect with other professionals on their own practice. The teacher training courses last for 12 weeks and consist of blended learning, with colleagues benefiting from face-to-face sessions, as well as online tasks, support and access to an experienced tutor throughout the process. During the 12 weeks, colleagues connect with their peers online, having first got to know them at the face-to-face meeting. One of the highlights of the doing the courses is working towards the PEP (Praxiserkundungsprojekt), a type of action research project, where participants work together with 2 other colleagues on a question of investigation, which they can apply to their own context, sharing insights with their colleagues.
The next two courses at the Goethe Institut in London will begin on Saturday 3 February 2018.
