The Ramgarhia Story

A free community education event will be taking place on Saturday 1 April from 11am to 1pm at the Ramgarhia Community Centre in Newham, one of East London’s key and long-standing commuinity schools. The public event will be an excellent opportunity to talk to teachers, parents, trustees and other local community schools in Newham and will include the following Key Note speeches and presenters:

1   Opening: Lyn Brown, Member of Parliament, West Ham

2   Chair: Professor Li Wei, Institute of Education, University College London (UCL)

3   Ramgarhia Panjabi School introduction: Tarlok Sura, School founder & Manjit Kaur Matharu, Headteacher   

4   Keynote speaker: Dr. Virginia Lam, Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology, UEL

5   An outsider’s view: Farkhanda Chaudry, Dental Practitioner & UEL MSc researcher

6   Panellists

Professor Terry Lamb, Professor of Languages & Interdisciplinary Pedagogy, University of Westminster;

Pascale Vassie, Executive Director, National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education (NRCSE);

7   Closing: Vice-Chancellor Professor John Joughin, University of East London (UEL)
